[Software] Ontwikkeling Saguaro voor PalmOS stopt

De ontwikkeling van Saguaro, een widget-omgeving voor het PalmOS, stopt. Dit hebben de makers gisteren bekend gemaakt. Maar of er iemand is die dit programma zal missen?

Saguaro is een cactussoort, maar daar gaat het nu even niet om: voor het PalmOS was het een applicatieframework, waar bovenop je kleine 'widgets' kon draaien: kleine programma'tjes met een enkele functie, zoals een klokprogramma, een weerprogramma of een nieuwsprogramma.

Toen het vorig jaar aan het publiek werd geshowt, lagen de reacties uiteen tot "wauw, die ziet eruit als een next-gen PalmOS" tot "Okee, leuk, maar wie wil hiervoor gaan ontwikkelen dan?". In April 2007 was er een sneak peek beschikbaar, en drie maanden geleden leek alles zo goed als af te zijn, maar het mocht helaas niet zo zijn.

De makers, PDAPerformance, wilden uiteindelijk dat Saguaro een nieuwe grafische user interface (GUI) zou worden voor het PalmOS, maar het idee blijkt door een gebrek aan een fatsoenlijke afzetmarkt financiëel niet haalbaar te zijn.

Chances are, someday you might find each of us out in unique industries doing what we love most – innovating.
