LoadWB LifeDrive crashing frequently; may bolt for PocketPC?
Jun 15, 2005 LoadWB Okay. I had a T5. It worked BEAUTIFULLY, but the WiFi did not support WPA, and 90% of my wireless installations are WPA. So, Palm (unapologetically, I might add) told me I should have bought the LifeDrive, and since the T5 was purchased within the last week, I should be able to exchange it. Staples was very accomodating on this. I explained the situation, and they happily took back my T5 and sold me the LifeDrive instead. And this is where my woes began. Again, let me state that the sofware below ALL WORKED PERFECTLY, WITHOUT CRASHING, on my T5 (exceptions noted below.) I am using the latest available version of all programs listed. QuickMile (?) Adobe Acrobat Reader for PalmOS (@) Planetarium WeatherManager (+) 4-In-A-Row Pegged MMPlayer/Kinoma Player 3 EX (*) SyncTime TX (?) WiFile Lt (@) ? - Not sure what kind of, if any, conduit is used + - Definitely uses a conduit * - MMPlayer wouldn't run on my LifeDrive ($19 gone, there,) so I bought Kinoma instead (the demo *seemed* to run fine.) The LD crashes with or without Kinoma. @ - Bundled software... I assume it's tested with the unit Other software which crashed when being used: MobileTS 1.5 Mergic VPN (sanctioned by Palm, no less.) I get everything configured just the way I like it: the Favorites, my user settings, BlueTooth and Wifi, then for no apparent reason, randomly and out of the blue, the thing just up and resets , then gets stuck in a boot-reset loop. This is VERY frustrating. BTW, I'm on my second unit now with the same results. Staples (again) was kind enough to replace it, thinking perhaps I got a bad unit. I spoke with PalmOne Tech Support last night for an hour. All they could tell me is to load one program, use it for a few days, then load the next program. I don't have time for that: not only do I need something that works, NOW, but I only have a short amount of time before I can't get my $500 back on the unit. I have done the "load one program" thing, numerous times, and I cannot find any common point when things crash. I've tried single programs, two programs, different combinations... I've spend a good 24 hours or more total working with this. TS says they don't have any diagnostic or troubleshooting tools I can use to help them. I suggested, at the very least, look at my user profile and see if there's any code in there that could cause a crash, or try the profile on their end to see if a simulator experiences the same fate. No go. What about tool to dump the program memory of the unit for post-mortem examination? No joy there, either. I'm sorely disappointed. I feel like I'm getting nowhere with this. I understand the LifeDrive is only a few weeks old, having been released mid-May, but it seems like PalmOne would be open to trouble reports, especially after I explained in great detail the troubleshooting I have already performed. How do they expect to produce updates if they ignore problem reports? I'd love to go back to my T5 at this point, even sacrifice the usefulness of WiFi. But after a seeing a demonstration of Windows Mobile 5.0, I may just ditch Palm altogether. If *anyone* has any information on the programs I mention, maybe if the developers troll these groups even, I would appreciate a heads-up. I can't imagine that the programs would run fine on the T5 and just conk out on the LifeDrive considering the closeness of the OS. Things are different, though, I understand: for instance, the memory manager has to account for the hard drive, and the built-in WiFi drivers. Thanks for listening. hdivito More with Life Drive
Jun 27, 2005 hdivito I am sorry for not submitting a solution for you LoadWB, but I would like to add one more point to your frustrations. I got Life Drive four days ago. After been working with a T|C the crashing situation for no reason with the brand new device is just inexplicable. I had installed a wireless keyboard that worked perfectly with the T|C. After that, several of the "resets" were " caused by the "keyboard" (according to window message when the device would start again). I am assuming that "keyboard" was referring to was the wireless. Furthermore, I had to un installed it and still downloaded the universal driver from Palmone's website. What's the point now of not having that keyboard capability if I wanted to write documents in Word? Second of all, now the problem is Documents to Go. It seems the device comes with a version pre installed. After having synced with my desktop, it seems Excel files are not recognized due to a pre existent version (whatever that means). Tried to un install it (both in the device and desktop) with the same results. Still the Life Drive keeps resetting itself whenever possible. It is so annoying! Tried to find a solution in the Q&A section, but it lacks lots of information. Thanks to anyone who has at least a solution to one of my concerns.

How do I unistall programs from my life drive?"
