What to do if you get an error message saying 'The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established, please check your setup and try again'.
We suggest the following steps to resolve the issue:
1. Turn on your handheld, tap on the 'Home' icon (or 'Applications' if running an older model) in the lower left corner of the screen.
Examine the battery icon near the top of the screen, and if the power indicator shows less than 25% charge, change batteries or recharge your Palm™ handheld before attempting another HotSync® operation.
2. Check that your HotSync® cradle/cable is correctly connected to your computer.
3. Uninstall the Palm™ Desktop organiser software using the 'Add/Remove' programs application from within Microsoft Windows.
4. Press the CTRL+ALT+DELETE keys simultaneously to close all running programs except Windows Explorer and Systray.
5. Insert the Palm™ Desktop organiser software CD-ROM and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
NOTE: With NT-based Windows systems such as Windows NT, Windows 2000 or Windows XP, you will need full administrator rights in order to perform the above operations.
1. Click the Hotsync Manager icon in the taskbar and ensure the correct option is ticked. Local USB or Serial.
2. Select 'set-up' and click on the 'Local' tab.
3. From the drop-down 'Port' menu, select the next available port (e.g. if it is currently showing 'Com1', then select 'Com2').
4. Click on 'OK' and attempt a HotSync® operation once again.
