It's quite easy actually: just copy the maps to the root of the internal drive using LifeDrive manager. The navigator-app still has to be in RAM. If you get the error 'armcode not allocated', make sure you've updated to v5.12.
Keep in mind that accessing the harddisk is a little slower, so sometimes you hear 'after thr.....eehoundred meters you've reached your destination'.
