Got it working, after many many hours of byte transfering.
Parts:
1 LD
1 SanDisk 4GB CF Model SDCFB-4096-A10 (

1 Win2k computer
1 USB multi-reader (

1. Installed CygWin on PC.
http://www.cygwin.com
2. Turned off LD, slid power switch to locked.
3. Disassembled LD, plugged LDMD (LifeDrive MicroDrive) into USB CF reader.
4. Opened Windows Disk Management, saw that the LDMD was seen as one disk, with three partitions:
partition1: 65MB healthy
partition2: 22MB unallocated
partition3: 3.73GB healthy
5. Used trial an error to see which cygwin device was the CF. For me, it was /dev/sdd
6. In cygwin, typed:
$ dd if=/dev/sdd of=~/sdd.img
7999488+0 records in
7999488+0 records out
4095737856 bytes (4.1 GB) copied, 965.562 seconds, 4.2 MB/s
$
7. Carefully ejected LDMD from PC. Store somewhere safe. Inserted CF into PC.
8. In cygwin, typed:
$ dd if=~/sdd.img of=/dev/sdd
7999488+0 records in
7999488+0 records out
4095737856 bytes (4.1 GB) copied, 8892.81 seconds, 461 kB/s
$
9. In Windows Disk Management, confirmed that the CF was now being see as:
partition1: 65MB healthy
partition2: 22MB unallocated
partition3: 3.73GB healthy
10. Carefully eject CF.
11. Insert CF into LD, reassemble. Power on.
12. LD works, as if nothing happened. Tried a soft
reset , was done in <30sec.
13. Dance around in celebration.
Thank you everyone for your help!
